John D. Tran is a co-founder and managing partner for the Intellectual Property practice at BKKT, which has been selected as one of 2008's top patent and trademark firms in the nation by IP Today Magazine. Although he is involved in every phase of intellectual property law, he devotes a substantial part of his practice to representing emerging start-up companies to large corporations in developing, implementing and protecting their ideas by obtaining patent, trademark, and copyright protection. The other part of his practice is dedicated to handling complex matters involving patent litigation, trademark/trade dress litigation and copyright litigation. He has litigated intellectual property cases both in the Federal and State Courts. As a Registered Patent Attorney, Mr. Tran has authored various patent applications with disciplines ranging from medical devices, software, business methods, and simple to complex mechanical devices. In addition, he has obtained numerous design patent applications for the apparel, computer, automotive and furniture industries. In addition he routinely handles infringement opinions, validity studies, invention consulting, patent portfolio audits, and patent licenses. His patent clients are global in nature, spanning U.S. based companies to foreign conglomerates in such countries as China, Korea and Vietnam. Numerous multi-million dollar companies also retain Mr. Tran as their Trademark counsel to manage and oversee their entire trademark portfolio. In doing so, he has successfully obtained trademark/trade dress registrations for his clients before the USPTO and internationally. Mr. Tran also devotes his time to numerous pro-bono activities such as serving on the board of directors for The Vietnamese American National Gala ("VANG") and on his free time, participates in youth summer camps mentoring and counseling under privileged teens and youth in the Foster Care System.
